Q&A: Florian Fischer
Q&A with Florian Fischer. The future is retrofit: building smarter from the inside out.
Knowledge-sharing and a collaborative mindset are foundational to PropTech Denmark and our community. In this Q&A series, we spotlight voices across the real estate value chain who exemplify these values. In this edition, we speak with Florian Fischer to explore what it takes to implement proptech solutions with impact. And why digital transformation must be a strategic priority, not just a technical upgrade.
In 2025, proptech is no longer an option – it’s the framework within which cities and assets must now operate. But which parts of the ecosystem hold the most untapped potential? As you see it, what role does proptech play in real estate in 2025?
PropTech is no longer a niche.
It’s the connective tissue between physical infrastructure and digital intelligence and can help us to make cities and buildings more adaptive and resilient.
The greatest impact will come not from tearing down, but from building smarter on what already exists. The question is: How will this momentum shape the industry long term. What are emerging areas of commercial proptech you are excited about in the proptech space?
I’m particularly keen on retrofitting solutions, serial refurbishments and smart materials.
Those are most needed to reach societal goals such as decarbonization, affordability, and livability.
The next decade demands more than operational upgrades. It calls for a mindset shift. How do you see the real estate industry evolving over the next 5-10 years?
The industry will be forced to internalize externalities. Emissions, climate risk, and social impact will become core to valuation.
We will see a growing gap between climate-native assets and stranded legacy portfolios.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your insights with us. Final question: Prior to getting to this point in your career: what is something you wish you’d have known?
Don’t be afraid to fail and don’t invest time and resources into something you know is bound to fail.
Problems don’t fix themselves. Ignoring them or hoping they’ll improve only makes them worse.
